David has been a practicing attorney for over 33 years. David is a long-time resident of this community having resided in the Logan Square neighborhood for over 30 years at the same address. David is concerned with issues affecting the community and is involved in local politics.
David currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Aspira of Illinois. David has taught business law at St. Augustine College. He serves as a volunteer attorney with the Council on Latin American Relations. David has helped develop the Second-Generation Organization for Youth (SOY) Academy. Previously, David has been a mentor to high school students with the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Corporate Internship Program. He has served as American Red Cross Chicago Regional Vice-Chairperson for Disaster Relief Services, as Legal Advisor to the Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees (IAHSE), served as Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) on its Leadership Development Program, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Health Alliance.
David has outstanding legal credentials. David earned his law degree (J.D.) from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1983. In addition, David earned an advanced law degree, an LL.M. in financial services law degree, from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. David earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and International Studies from the University of South Florida.
David has been found “Qualified” or “Recommended” by the following major bar associations:
Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), Chicago Council of Lawyers, Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI), Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Illinois (BWLA), Decalogue Society of Lawyers, Hellenic Bar Association, and the Puerto Rican Bar Association.
With more than 33 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, David has represented individuals and businesses in the community and the corporate arena. He has also handled many lawsuits in federal and state courts. Before going into private practice, David was an Illinois Assistant Attorney General. David opened a regional office of the Attorney General in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhoods. The office provided assistance to crime victims, fights consumer fraud, assisted immigrants and made government more accessible to Chicago’s north and northwest side residents. David has also served as a Commissioner with the State of Illinois Court of Claims. As a Commissioner, David heard tort and contract cases against the State of Illinois.
Currently, David serves as First Deputy General Counsel for the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. In this supervisory role, David, in conjunction with the General Counsel, is responsible for all legal issues affecting the Clerk’s office.
